MAYA CHAMMAS
District 4
Maya was born in Lebanon and moved to Canada at a very young age. She feels very fortunate to have grown up in TMR, close to the town center.

Maya has been very active on the municipal scene for the past decade, having been involved in several facets of our town. Whether it be with our seniors, the parents’ association, the local schools or during various local events, Maya’s vitality, her positive energy and her ability to rally and have people come together for a worthy cause have become her trademark.
INTEREST IN MUNICIPAL POLITICS
Maya's path and her past accomplishments lead naturally to her involvement in municipal politics, where she will be a strong voice for the younger generation that she represents, and for all the townies. Community development, strengthening the social fabric and increased citizen engagement in municipal matters are Maya’s core priorities. Maya knows how important it is to listen and to place the residents at the heart of the decision-making process.
Her ability lies in working hand-in-hand with people to understand their circumstances and create space for bilateral communication that feeds into community programs addressing their needs. This skill is undoubtedly an asset on the municipal front helping Maya and the United for TMR team strengthen civic engagement and represent all of you.
PROFESSIONAL BACKGROUND
Maya is a trained recreologist and an entrepreneur. Through her studies in that field and the many roles she has played over the years teaching residents of various age groups, as well as organizing special events and community initiatives, she has gained extensive knowledge of the TMR community and developed strong leadership and teamwork skills. Her expertise, coupled with her experience in the field, serves to assist in gathering feedback and identifying creative ways to update and maintain TMR’s recreation and leisure programs for all ages, with the objective of keeping TMR at the forefront in this area and meeting the needs of all age groups.
Maya currently divides her time between her volunteer work and running her business, Dose of Happy, a company she created in 2018 that specializes in community and recreational programming (e.g. afterschool programs aimed at teaching healthy life habits to children).
In 2016, Maya founded Move for a cure, her own non-profit organization that plans annual and pop-up fitness events benefiting a different medical cause every year (support medical research to fight blood cancer, crohns & colitis, cystic fibrosis etc.)
