United for TMR places commitment and communication at the forefront of its values. Our team wishes to promote citizen involvement, advocating transparency and bi-lateral communication with the residents. Convinced that a city evolves through citizen dialogue, the candidates want to be accessible and close to the community and advocate a collaborative approach with the various stakeholders on major issues affecting the city.

RECAP OF OUR FIRST DISCUSSION GROUP

In May 2021, we held our first discussion groups.  This was an important step for our team in gaining a deeper understanding of the issues that are important to residents.  It is important for us to validate “what we hear” and “what we think” with residents.  These discussions and our continued interactions with our neighbors will serve as the basis of our platform.

Below are some of the important themes that came out of these discussions.

MOBILITY AND SECURITY

  • Bike paths – dedicated paths, more connectivity

  • Increase residents’ knowledge of services offered by TMR public security (such as home security)

  • High level of concern with respect to increased traffic in our city and measures that the Town must continue to put in place: speed humps, narrowing intersections, bulging sidewalks etc.

  • Discussion of lowering town speed limit at 30kms/hr on residential streets

ENVIRONMENT & URBAN PLANNING

  • Process and rules pertaining to the CCU and the issuance of permits: system not user friendly and rules are not clear enough

  • CCU delays are long and there is no point of contact

  • Residents appreciate and value the flower beds and decorations

  • Ensure the city continues investing in the urban forest / tree canopy

  • Many interested in green initiatives

  • Discussions on major files such as Royalmount and PPU Rockland

RECREATIONAL & CULTURAL ACTIVITIES

  • It would be great to have a youth group

  • Improved programming (REC activities, camps)

  • Calendar of events – cultural activities such as conferences and concerts

FINANCE & COMMERCIAL ACTIVITY

  • Excited for future developments in our town center / new public place / making it a gathering place

  • Well managed finances / city taxes are reasonable

  • Buy local initiatives
