Investment of 32M$

unispourvmr

Investment of $32M for the construction of a fire station and new administrative offices – At the next Municipal Council, scheduled for December 17th, 2024, a draft loan by-law of $32M will be tabled for adoption to finance the construction of a new fire station and new administrative offices for the engineering, urban planning and public security departments.

Transparency requested - This project represents a major investment for our city and deserves to be presented and explained to TMR residents.  We have made a request to this effect to the Mayor so that information on this project (plans and images of the project, associated costs and financing, fiscal impact, planned timeline, agreement with Montreal, etc.) is available to residents in complete transparency.  We have not yet received any confirmation on this request.  We consider that, even though the project was mentioned during the presentation of the Mayor's vision for Danyluk Park in February 2023 and despite the fact that the site underwent a zoning change last month for which residents could ask questions (see link below), it is necessary, in complete transparency, to communicate to residents the detailed content of this project.

Nature of the project – This investment is part of the Mayor’s vision of Danyluk Park and is in addition to the loan of $70M voted for on May 14, 2024 for the sports and community center.  This new building will be located on the site of the former 40 Roosevelt, and will require the demolition of existing buildings, namely 10-20 and 40 Roosevelt.  It is planned that the SIM (Montreal fire department) will become the owner of the fire station, following the transfer by the Town of Mount Royal of part of a lot in Danyluk Park, and will pay the construction and maintenance costs for the fire station portion of the project.  However, the agreement has not yet been finalized and we do not know the content of the amount paid by Montreal (compared to the anticipated total sum of the project of $32 million).  The architectural services were contracted last June 13,2023 at a price of 1,23M$.  The call for tenders and the start of construction is planned for 2025.
