Flooding Update

unispourvmr

In the last week, here is what we have been up to:

  1. We asked the Mayor to publish a report on the actions implemented by the city since 2022 and to present to residents its short / medium / long term action plan for the city for 2024-2026.

  2. We are convinced that more transparency and better communication to residents is necessary.

  3. We expressed our disappointment with the lack of speed in which city employees were mobilized, whether for the collection of bulky waste or to ensure the presence of public works/ public security in our streets to support residents.

  4. We asked the Mayor to put in place an emergency plan to respond adequately and effectively during the next floods.

  5. We are in favor of better technical and material support for residents affected by the floods.

We are aware that many residents have questions, are anxious and are experiencing moments of great stress and discouragement.

SO, in the short term, we have been working with council and Town administration to share the most common questions YOU have asked us and await answers to.  Please consult the FAQ prepared by the city: https://www.ville.mont-royal.qc.ca/en/news/miscellaneous/frequently-asked-questions-your-guide-to-answers-about-the-heavy-rains-of-august-9

The next council meeting is on Tuesday, August 20th.  In anticipation of next Tuesday, knowing that many of you will be present, we have asked the Mayor to extend the time allocated to the question period.

We will continue to be attentive to residents’ concerns, and to defend your interests; despite our limited access to internal discussions following our expulsion from the Mayor's caucus since January 2024.

The irony is that the Mayor excluded us from his caucus because we were asking too many questions and supposedly slowing him down in his efforts and projects!
